Shiplat is a strategic and off-radar distributor powering global logistics giants like FedEx, UPS, and DHL with critical ship and aircraft parts. The dashboard brings every aspect of the business into one control center — enabling smarter management of shipments, orders, employees, clients, and workflows. It’s designed to streamline operations, optimize performance, and give Shiplat full visibility across its supply chain.
While this project didn’t require heavy secondary research, the key insights came from speaking directly with people already using legacy software for a similar industry. These conversations revealed pain points, inefficiencies, and gaps in existing workflows; which became the foundation for rethinking and improving Shiplat’s processes and methods.
Now, let’s dive into the core designs and the thinking that shaped them...
With a large and growing client base, Shiplat needed a dedicated dashboard module to manage relationships seamlessly. The Clients Management section makes it easy to search for clients on demand, view detailed records, add new clients, contact clients directly, and remove outdated entries when necessary. Below is the flow for adding new clients.
Initially, rejection reasons were limited to individual documents. However, after discussions with real users of existing systems, the flow was reworked to include a general comment field for entire batches. This allows approvers to explain why a full set of documents was rejected, or apply the same reason across multiple documents when applicable.
Like most logistics companies, Shiplat operates with hundreds of employees; making a robust Employee Management module essential. This section of the dashboard provides a clear overview of each employee’s details, activity and tasks within a selected timeframe. It also streamlines onboarding, allowing HR teams to add employees individually or upload bulk details using a pre-defined template.
